ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Wednesday has proposed phase-wise holding of local body (LB) elections in Punjab and Sindh in November and December to the Supreme Court (SC).

The SC has summoned explanation over holding LB polls in three phases and with delay.

A three-member bench headed by Justice Jawwad S Khawaja held hearing of LB elections case.

ECP’s counsel Munir Paracha put forth the proposed schedule of elections in Punjab and Sindh. The schedule recommends holding of elections in three phases.

The polling in three different stages is proposed to be held on November 14, November 29 and December 19.

However, the SC has expressed dissatisfaction over the proposal and summoned explanation in the matter. Justice Khawaja said that the ECP should explain reason behind stretching elections until November and December.
