Talks with Taliban are government's top priority, says Chaudhry Nisar

The interior minister says Pervez Musharraf himself decided to go to military hospital.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has said dialogue with Taliban is the top priority of the government for peace in the country.

Talking to media in Islamabad on Sunday, he said that a foreign power was carrying out drone attacks to sabotage process of peace talks with Taliban.

He said the decision to hold talks with Taliban was given by the political leadership of the country during All Parties Conference.

Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said negotiations were underway with different groups and hoped some good outcome.

He said the government welcomes those Taliban groups who will respond talks offer positively and those who will shoot bullets‚ government will respond in the same way. He said problem will not be solved by operation at one place only.

He said that both talks with and operation against Taliban are difficult tasks. He said that we are facing criticism for talks with Tehrik-e-Taliban.

Responding to a question, Chaudhry Nisar said that the terrorist who targeted Chaudhry Aslam was living in Karachi for last several years.

The interior minister said he could not discuss the attack in detail as any statement could affect the process of investigation.

Responding to a question regarding General (r) Pervez Musharraf, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said the former president himself decided to move to Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology (AFIC). Even the authorities of AFIC were not aware of the decision of Pervez Musharraf, he added.

The interior minister said that Pervez Musharraf’s name was put on the Exit Control List (ECL) on the request of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) while former president’s wife Sehba Musharraf had requested to exclude her husband s name from ECL.

Chaudhry Nisar said NADRA Chairman will be appointed through open competitive process and an acting chairman will be appointed by the Board which is going to meet on 15th of this month whereas the acting chairman will hold charge for limited period.

He said the Committee already formed relating to verification of Thum Impression of voters‚ will continue to inter-act independently with Election commission. The committee will not require any inter-action with Interior Ministry. It will be totally independent of the administrative control of the Ministry.

The interior minister said audit of NADRA will be carried out soon and the organization which was reluctant for audit in the past‚ will fully cooperate with the Auditor General of Pakistan in this regard.

He said during the previous government eight thousand people were recruited in NADRA. He said their performance audit will also be carried out.

To a question‚ the minister said the arms license would be issued after complete verification of the licenses issued during the previous government.

Answering a question‚ he said the draft of National Security Policy is ready and will be presented soon in the meeting of the Cabinet Committee of the Security.
