An account of the politicians who embarked their professional career as a Police Officer but later

stepped into the political arena and held key public posts.

 

Nawab Aslam Raisani, former Chief Minister of Balochistan, commenced his professional life as D.S.P. He inherited ‘SARDARship’ of Raisani tribe after his father’s demise and resigned from the Police department. He contested in 2008 Elections and later on became the Chief Minister of Balochistan.

 

Similarly, Rana Muhammad Iqbal, former Speaker Punjab Assembly, also took off his professional career as an A.S.P. He resigned soon afterwards and became head of a Rajput clan after his father passed away. Walking in his father’s footsteps, he was elected numerous times for the Punjab Assembly before he became Speaker Punjab Assembly after 2008 Elections. He also wears the crown of being the first ever candidate to be elected unopposed in the by-elections, which happened in PP149 Kasur in 1993 Elections.

 

Asghar Khan Nawani a.k.a. Halaku Khan was a retired DIG who was elected for National Assembly from Bhakar as an Independent candidate.

 

Rana Muhammad Aslam, PTI candidate for Punjab Assembly from Kasur is a retired DIG as well. Another PTI candidate for National Assembly, Humayun Jogezai has also served for Police as DIG. Similarly, former IG Punjab Chaudhary Muhammad Yaqoob is contesting elections from NA 136 Sheikhupura on PTI’s ticket.

 

Another retired IG Punjab has contested in the elections before, Chaudhary Muhammad Amin was PML(Q) candidate from NA 122 in the Elections 2002.

 

Mir Abdul Jabbar Khan, former Deputy Chairman Senate was also a retired DIG.
