Deepika Padukone pulls out of GES after Padmavati release delay

(Web Desk) – Bollywood actor Deepika Padukone has pulled out of Global Entrepreneurship Summit amid the delay in the release of her upcoming movie Padmavati after Hindu-extremist groups in India held violent protests.

The Tamasha star was scheduled to appear at the event while US President Donald Trump s daughter Ivanka Trump as well as Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi who will come during the inaugural session on November 28. Deepika declined to attend the summit despite being expected to turn up, Telangana government confirmed.

She was to speak during the November 29 session named “Hollywood to Nollywood to Bollywood: The Path to Moviemaking”. It is still unclear why she pulled out of the session at the eleventh hour as no reason has been cited.

However, people are assuming that she has reacted to the delay in the release of Padmavati which is directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Right-wing Hindu extremist groups protested against the release and pressurised Indian producers.

The ruling Indian Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders even announced INR 100 million worth head money for film director Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone over rumours that the movie will depict a romance between the queen and a Muslim ruler.

GES is being co-hosted by the US and India. It was told that as many as 1,500 entrepreneurs, investors, and ecosystem supporters from all over the world will participate in the mega summit which is themed as “Women First, Prosperity for All”.
