Veteran Indian actor Vinod Khanna dies of cancer

Khanna had starred in more than 100 films in a career spanning over five decades.

MUMBAI (Dunya News)  -Veteran Indian actor Vinod Khanna died at the age of 70 years on Thursday after battling with cancer from years. 

The actor has left behind wife Kavita Khanna, sons Rahul, Akshaye and Sakshi, and daughter Shraddha Khanna.

He was admitted to Sir H.N. Reliance Foundation Hospital and Research Centre in Girgaon, Mumbai. Earlier, a picture of him went viral which showed him in an emaciated condition with his family. The actor was seen wearing hospital clothes and looked quite pale and thin.



Khanna has worked in more than 100 films and was also the sitting Bharatiya Janata Party member of the Lok Sabha from the Gurdaspur constituency in Punjab.

He made his film debut in 1968 with Mann Ka Meet, and later on went on to give remarkable performances in films like Mere Apne, Mera Gaon Mera Desh, Imtihaan, Inkaar, Amar Akbar Anthony, Lahu ke Do Rang, Qurbani, Dayavaan and Jurm. The actor also appeared in a Pakistani film Godfather.

Vinod Khanna is the recipient of Filmfare award in the best supporting actor category for Haath Ki Safaai and two Lifetime Achievement Awards ---one from Filmfare in 1999 and the other from Zee in 2007.



However; in 1980 he temporarily bid goodbye to the film industry and joined his guru Osho Rajneesh at his ashram. After five years, he returned back to films and appeared in Insaaf and Satyamev Jayate.

Alongwith his political engagements, he starred in some of the recent films such as Dabangg, Players, Dabangg 2 and was last seen in Dilwale in 2015.

Celebrities, politicians and fans of the actor took to twitter to express their condolences:
