'Ae Dil Hai Mushkil' director has been enduring pressure lately amidst Pakistan-Indian tensions

MUMBAI (Dunya News) – Karan Johar, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Dharma Productions, one of India’s largest film production houses has announced on Tuesday to not cast Pakistani actors over animosity amidst Pakistan-India relations that got tensed in September.

The development has come in after the house’s forthcoming release, ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ was hit by controversy over actor, Fawad Khan essaying a role in it.

Khan, belonging to Pakistan has been getting threats by extremist wings in India ever since his first release ‘Khoobsurat’ was a blockbuster in 2014. In context of ongoing tensed relations, Fawad’s part in Neeraj Pandey’s biopic of Indian cricketer, M. S. Dhoni was removed as well.

Pandey had cited the tensions between neighbouring states for the act.

On the other hand, association of film producers banned Pakistani actors last month until the ties restored to “normalcy.”
