Dunya News

Nazir is loan defaulter of some 6 million rupees.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – A banking court indicted Shahid Nazir -- the ‘one pound fish’ song man who made it into top charts with his song -- here on Monday over fraud charges worth up to 6 million rupees, Dunya News reported.
During the court hearing, Shahid Nazir’s lawyer told the court that his client obtained a loan of six million rupees from a private bank and intends to pay it back in its due time; maintaining that bank has filed the case to damage his client’s reputation.
Public prosecutor maintained that investigating officer has submitted the report in the court following a thorough investigation; asking the defendant to be indicted. Following which, the court indicted the famed singer.
Court adjourned the hearing until April 9 and summoned witnesses for due testimonies.
Nazir had reached number 29 in British pop charts for his song which he originally made up to sell fish at a fish vendor in east London for one pound a fish. The song became viral when one of the customers recorded it and posted it on to YouTube.
Becoming instant YouTube sensation landed him a contract with Warner Music where his song was officially recorded and released.
Upon his arrival to Pakistan, Nazir used his song was adopted as a jingle for telephonic services and he became the face of its TV and radio adverts.
It merits mentioning here that banking court had issued bailable arrest warrants against Nazir in September last year in the same case.
According to details, Shahid Nazir had acquired the loan to support his transportation business. Upon failure to reimburse the borrowed amount, the leasing company had filed a recovery suit and later found out the post dated cheques paid to the loaning company were bogus.
