1st eliminator: Anwar's heroic in vain as Zalmi eliminate Gladiators

(Dunya News) – Peshawar Zalmi 157-10 (Dawson 62, Rahat 4-16) beat Quetta Gladiators 156-9 (Sarfraz 35, Gul 2-21) by 1 run in first eliminator of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2018 here at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.

In pursuit of 158, Gladiators wobbled early as they lost Asad Shafique on the very first ball of their innings. Hassan Ali was the bowler who gave Zalmi early breakthrough.

In his second over, Hassan picked Tom Kohler-Cadmore to dent the momentum of the chase.

After two quick wickets, Sarfraz and Nawaz led recovery. Both players kept the things under control with also ensuring to keep scoreboard ticking. Both batsmen added 63 runs for the third wicket. At time, when Gladiators were taking match away from Zalmi, Sammy introduced Sameen Gul. And, the right-arm pacer didn’t disappoint his skipper as he removed Sarfraz and Nawaz in consecutive deliveries.

 

To add insult to injuries, Umaid Asif repeated the episode for Zalmi when he claimed two important wickets of Rile Rossouw and Mahmudullah in 16th over.

 

With 25 runs required of the last over, Anwar Ali hit three 6s and a 4 on first five deliveries.

Dawson bowled last ball a full toss on middle stump which was smacked by Anwar. The fielder dropped at long on but he s quick to throw it back in. The batsmen try to take the second, but they can t make it. Dawson takes the bails off at the non-striker s and Quetta Gladiators were eliminated.

Zalmi innings

Dawson 29-ball-50 has guided Peshawar Zalmi to a respectable total of 157 runs against Quetta Gladiators in the first eliminator of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2018 here at Gaddafi Stadium.

Being sent in to bat, Zalmi wobbled early in their innings with inform Kamran Akmal and Fletcher departing in the successive overs. After early losses, Tamim and Hafeez stabilized things in the middle. Both added 44 runs for the third wicket before Hafeez fell prey to Mahmudullah in the eighth over. Tamim followed him soon.

Later, Wahab Riaz hit 15 quick runs on just 7 balls to lift Zalmi to 157 runs.
