Security beefed up for Independence Cup

Pakistan will play three T20s against World XI on September 12, 13 and 15.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – As the top-level international cricket comes back home after a drought of eight years, security has been beefed up in the provincial capital which on Tuesday is ready host the first Twenty20 International of Independence Cup.

More than 200 latest cameras have been installed on the ways leading to Gaddafi Stadium, the venue of the tournament, and live supervising will be done under the Safe City Authority.

Law enforcement agencies are conducting aerial monitoring of Gaddafi Stadium, players’ hotel and the routes by helicopter since the arrival of World XI squad. The venue has been declared high alert area. According to sources, the aerial scanning will continue till the conclusion of Independence Cup.

10400 security officials, including eight thousand police officers and 2400 wardens, will perform duties during the series. Officers of intelligence agencies and snipers are also deployed.

The officials of special branch completed the screening of Gaddafi Stadium on Monday, and handed it over to the police and Rangers. Furthermore, Nishtar Sports Complex, shops and restaurants around the stadium will be kept closed till September 15.

The spectators will only be allowed to enter the stadium after biometric verification and complete checking. Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Capt (retd) Amin Wains conducted a four-hour-long meeting with police officials and reviewed the security position.
