Fakhar Zaman, Amir, Hasan Ali shine as Pakistan trump India in the big final at Oval

LONDON (Dunya News) – A team that started the tournamnet as underdogs shook the World as they won the Champions Trophy 2017 while defeating their arch-rivals in the high-voltage final game.



At the end of the day, it was Pakistan that who thumped India by 180 runs at the final of ICC Champions Trophy at the Oval.  

Earlier, India won the toss and elected to field first in the final of ICC Champions Trophy 2017 on a fresh wicket against Pakistan.

Batting first, Pakistan scored 338 in the allotted 50 overs while batting first. Fakhar Zaman played one of the finest innings of Champions Trophy as Pakistan batted brilliantly throughout the innings and put a big total on the board for the opposition to chase.

In response, India were all out for 158 as their batting line completely collapsed in pursuit of 339-run target.

Pandya in an effort to build the innings after the huge collapse turned on his aggressive mode as he thumped Shadab for three sixes and a four in the twenty third over.

A total of 23 runs came in the twenty third over.

In the twenty six over, it was Pandya who decided to cut loose again as he thumped Fakhar Zaman for two sixes in the twenty sixth over.

The dangerous Pandya seemed to be in mood to reshape the innings however his brilliant knock was thwarted by the misunderstanding of running between the wicket as he got run out after scoring 76 runs of 43 balls.

India were 154 for the loss of seven wickets after 27 overs.

Junaid was introduced to the attack as he removed Jadeja who was caught by Babar Azam after he scored 15 runs.

Frustrations continued for India after Hardik Pandya loss as Ashwin also departed after scoring just 1 run while being caught by the skipper of the bowling of Hasan Ali.

The last wicket fell in the shape of Bumrah departing for just one run as Hasan Ali took another wicket while finishing as the highest wicket taker of the tournament.


Pakistan knocked India by 180 runs in the final of ICC Champions Trophy 2017.


While clinching the title, Pakistan also climbed to sixth spot in ICC ODI rankings.



Overs 18, Score 80/6

While chasing down a mammoth target of 339 runs to win, India seemed to have lost the plot from the very outset as the batting line completely collapsed while reaching while they hardly reach fifty runs.

It was the dangerous Amir who turned out to be Oval’s nightmare for the Indian team. The left-arm pacer removed Rohit Sharma in the very first over of the innings as he was trapped plumb in front of the stumps.


In his second over, one of the dangerous bowlers in today’s cricket gave some hard time to the dangerous batsman in the World.

First, an edge of his bat flew to Azhar who dropped an easy catch while of the very next ball, Kohli gave away a catch straight to point to put India in trouble.



After two amazing two overs by Amir, India were seven for the loss of two wickets.

Yuvraj in an effort to build the innings thumped a boundary of Junaid in the sixth over.

Dhawan took the charge in the next over of Junaid as he thumped him for two boundaries.



It was the brilliant Amir who put India in deep deep trouble by removing Dhawan who was caught by the skipper after scoring 21 runs.

Youvraj came strong in the next over as he pummeled Hafeez for three boundaries in the next over.

India were 47 for the loss of three wickets after 10 overs.

A maiden over was bowled by Amir which was eleven of the innings.

Shadab was introduced to the attack in the thirteen over as he removed the brilliant Youraj while getting him trapped leg before wicket.



India were in further trouble with the loss.

In the very next over, Hasan Ali got the wicket of Dhoni as he was caught by Imad in an effort to pull a short ball.

Indian batting line completely collapsed as half of their team was back in the pavilion when the score was 54.

Jhadav hit a boundary in the fifteenth over bowled by Shadab.

India were in huge trouble as they were 62 for the loss of five wickets after 15 overs.

Jhadav hit a brilliant shot towards the boundary of the bowling of Hasan Ali however was caught by Sarfraz as the ball edged off his bat and flew in the air to fell safely in skipper’s gloves.

It seemed like the Indian batting line didn’t cope up with the pressure that was created by a huge score on the board as wickets fell in quick succession from the very start.

India were 80 for the loss of six wickets after 18 overs.

Overs 50, Score 338/4

Fakhar Zaman departed after scoring a brilliant knock of 114 runs of 106 balls that included three sixes and 12 boundaries. Well Played Fakhar!



Zaman’s brilliant knock put Pakistan in commanding position as he removed the pressure while at the same time provide an oppurtunity to rest of the batsman to put a big total on the board.



Babar Azam thumped Bumrah for a boundary over backward square leg.

Pakistan were 209 for the loss of two wickets after 35 overs.



Babar Azam hit a brilliant shot yet again as he muscled one over midwicket for four.

Shoaib Malik hit one down the ground as punished Jadeja for a huge six in the next over.


Pakistan were 227 for the loss of two wickets after 37 overs.


In the next over, Babar Azam chose Pandya for punishment as he hit two consecutive boundaries in Pandya’s over.



Bhuvneshwar Kumar was introduced to the attack as he fill in the expectations of the captain and removed Shoaib Malik who was caught by Jadhav after scoring 12 runs.


Pakistan were 247 for the loss of three wickets after 40 overs.


Hafeez thumped Kumar for boundary in the forty second over as a total of nine runs came of it this time.

Babar Azam was caught by Yuvraj Singh of the bowling of Jadhav after he scored a good innings of 46 runs.



Bumrah went for eight runs in the next over as he also conceded a boundary.

It was in the forty fifth over when Imad decided to cut loose as he thumped Jadhav for two sixes and which resulted in fetching 16 runs of the over.



Kumar also went for a six in the next over as Hafeez thumped him down the ground in the next over.

Bumrah conceded eight runs in the forty seventh over as Imad thumped him for a boundary this time.

Muhammad Hafeez pummeled one away for a maximum in the last over as nine runs came of Kumar’s last over.


Pakistan managed to score 338 for the loss of four wickets in the allotted overs.

Pandya conceded four runs in the twenty first over he bowled.



Azhar Ali thumped jadeja for a boundary in the twenty second over as seven runs were conceded this time.



Pakistan were 125 for no loss after 22 overs.

It was in twenty third over when Pakistan lost their wicket as a result of misunderstanding between Azhar and Fakhar. Azhar Ali got run out after he scored a good innings of 59 runs of 71 balls.

Jadeja bowled a good next over as only one run came this time.



Ashwin conceded five runs in the next over.

Fakhar Zaman decided to speed things up as he chose Jadeja for punishment in the next over while thumping him for two boundaries and a huge six.

In the next over, Fakhar once again decided to cut loose as he thumped Ashwin for a six and a boundary in the twenty seventh over.

A total of 33 runs came in two overs straight after the twenty fifth over.

Fakhar Zaman also hit a boundary of the bowling of Pandya in the next over.



The next two overs were rather good for India as only runs came of it.

Pakistan were 186 for the loss of one wicket after 31 overs.


Fakhar Zaman reached to his magnificent hundred in thirty first over as he became the only Pakistani batsman in Champions Trophy 2017 to score a hundred. It’s the first time Pakistan is playing the final of Champions Trophy.

Azhar Ali looked to be in mood as he chose Bumrah for punishment in the sixth over while hitting him for two boundaries in the sixth over.

Kumar bowled rather a good seventh over as only two runs came of it.

Azhar Ali was in brilliant touch today as he opted to give a fine welcome to Ashwin in the eighth over while thumping him for six in the eight over.

After being asked to bat first, Pakistan looked steady during the initial proceedings as both the openers were playing rather sensibly.

The first over by Kumar was a good one as he bowled a maiden to start things up for India.

Bumrah came to share the new ball and conceded three runs in the over.

Kumar conceded four runs in the third over as Pakistan were seven for no loss after the first three overs.

It was in the fourth innings when Pakistani openers decided to cut loose when first Fakhar Zaman thumped Bumrah for a boundary and later on.

Azhar Ali smashed him for another one. A total of 12 runs came in the fourth over.

Fakhar Zaman took the charge again in the fifth over as Fakhar Zaman pulled one towards square leg for a boundary.

At the toss, India skipper Virat Kohli said it is nice and hard wicket. “There’s a fresh wicket, even grass covering and we’d like our bowlers to exploit it. Then we like chasing.”

Kohli said “no matter the conditions, you have to play good cricket. One more effort to go. I’m sure the guys will give it their best shot. If you make the finals, you’ve played really good cricket. We don’t take oppositions for granted and today is no different. No matter what they bring, we are believing in our abilities.”

Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed said "we wanted to bowl first. But the toss is out of our control. Hopefully we can post more than 300. I said when we arrived here, we have nothing to lose and we have nothing to lose today too.”

India are unchanged for the final, whereas, Mohammad Amri has made a comeback in Pakistan team. Rumman Raees, the debutant in the previous game, is out.

The match is being played at The Oval in London. The average first innings score in the last six games at The Oval is 267.
