Afghan board head claimed Younis will become Afghanistan batting coach after retirement

(Web Desk) – Afghanistan Cricket Board head claimed on Thursday that batting legend Younis Khan will coach Afghanistan batting after retiring from international Test cricket.

Atif Mashal told media that the 39-year-old legend was all set to become Afghanistan batting coach as soon as retirement from international cricket after West Indies tour.

While talking about the matter, Mashal claimed the new job is currently under discussion, adding that Afghanistan cricket board was interested in playing series with green shirts.

Afghan board head made it clear that the Afghanistan cricket team couldn’t tour Pakistan due to security concerns. However, he invited Pakistan to tour the neighbouring country for bilateral cricket series saying, "Cricket diplomacy can improve the relations between countries. We can host Pakistani players in Kabul and assure fool-proof security."

Two of the most senior players in Pakistan Test XI, skipper Misbah-ul-Haq and Younis Khan, are currently playing their last Test match in Roseau against West Indies.

If Afghan cricket board and Younis Khan reach an agreement, it will be the fourth time that the neighbouring country acquires services of a Pakistani to improve cricketing standards. Previously, PCB Chief Selector Inzamam-ul-Haq, former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif and player Kabir Khan have done coaching jobs in Afghanistan.

Mashal Khan is confident to hire Younis as Afghan batting coach as he said, “We want best players for our team. We are looking at his demands our possibilities.”
