Senator Mushahid Ullah Khan bashes PCB and complains that the incident caused national shame

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Shahryar Khan was summoned on Friday at the Senate committee chaired by Senator Mushahid Ullah Khan.

PCB chief briefed the committee and announced that Pakistan Super League (PSL) final will take place in Lahore with or without the foreign players. “Both cricketers Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif will face lifetime bans if spot-fixing is proved”, he stated.

However, Shahryar Khan faced trouble upon saying that the charged players didn’t know whether the person was a fixer or fan during the meeting at which the PCB’s Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) caught them. Senate committee chairman and PML-N leader Mushahid Ullah Khan bashed Shahryar Khan and PCB.

Mushahid Ullah Khan said that Sharjeel Khan is a skilled cricketer and suggested to check whether other players trapped him. “Players should not be treated unjustly”, he added.

He warned that this tribunal should not replicate the results of Justice Qayyum report and the PCB should try to make the investigation transparent. “If players are innocent then they will be helped. Such players should be kept away from the cricket board that have had stains of fixing in past”, he advised.

During media talk, Shahryar Khan told that Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif confessed to their mistakes while suggesting that their previous and present statements have contradicted. "Players were briefed about cricket betting and bookmakers, however, the two cricketers refused to inform management after meeting a bookie", he told. PCB chairman further stated that it is currently being investigation whether Mohammad Irfan had any involvement in the matter.

Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif were handed over the charge sheet according to which both players committed corruption in PSL 2017 by meeting a fixer and violating the Clause 2 of the anti-corruption code.
