Pakistan Cup: Sindh emerges victorious, beats Balochistan by 42 runs
The match was restricted to 31 overs due to rain while Sindh's score of 266 runs was lowered to 229.
FAISALABAD (Dunya News) – Sindh on Thursday emerged victorious in the third match of the Pakistan Cup series, beating Balochistan by 42 runs. The match was restricted to 31 overs due to rain. Exceptional performances, with a century each, by Khurram Manzoor and Sami Aslam became the basis for Sindh’s comprehensive win.
Balochistan’s chasing target was set at 229 runs in 31 overs. Sindh’s Sohail Khan managed to pick up the wicket of Mohammad Nawaz in the very first over. Nawaz failed to score any run. Babar Azam looked edgy and managed to score only 13 runs.
Third batsman for Balochistan, Umer Akmal, also failed to make any significant impression and was dismissed at only 10 runs. Sohail Tanveer managed to contribute precious 19 runs to Balochistan’s innings.
Azhar Ali looked determined to bring his team back on its feet, but even his splendidly scored century was not enough for Balochistan to get them back in the game. Balochistan managed to score only 186 runs up until the 31st over.
Earlier, Sindh’s innings was filled with some spectacular batting skills displayed by Sarfaraz Ahmed’s team prove to be the motivation needed. Sami Aslam remained unbeaten at 108 runs while Khurram Manzoor’s managed to grab 100 runs.
Sindh had set a target of 266 runs but the play was disrupted by the rain due to which the overall score and the overs were lowered.
Meanwhile proper arrangements for the tournament have been ensured while the authorities have also directed to monitor the whole series that will conclude on May 1.
Sindh captained by newly-appointed national T20 skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed. Left-arm pacer Mohammad Amir was the first pick made by Sarfaraz. The team also includes Sohail Khan, Khalid Latif, Sohaib Maqsood, Fawad Alam, Imad Wasim, Anwar Ali and Sami Aslam. Tauseef Ahmed and Iqbal Imam will coach the Sindh team.
Balochistan led by Pakistan ODI skipper Azhar Ali includes Babar Azam, Junaid Khan, Umar Akmal, Saeed Ajmal, Sohail Tanvir, Umar Gul and Bilawal Bhatti. Ijaz Ahmed and Taimur Azam are coaching the Balochistan side.
