Provincial govts urged to ensure availability of essential items at affordable prices

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Adviser to the Prime Minister on Finance Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh has urged all provincial governments to strictly monitor rates of various commodities to ensure availability of essential items for the consumers at affordable price.

Chairing a meeting of National Price Monitoring Committee in Islamabad today (Monday), he asked the provincial governments and all other concerned authorities to take immediate proactive measures to control increase in prices.

The meeting reviewed the price trend of the essential commodities including wheat flour, sugar, tomatoes and onions on weekly basis.

The meeting was briefed that sufficient quantities are available in the country.

It was told that there is a decline in the prices of wheat flour, sugar, onions while the prices of tomatoes, potatoes and chicken have slightly increased, whereas rate of vegetable ghee remained unchanged.

Chief Secretaries from Sindh Punjab Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Managing Director Utility Stores Corporation briefed the committee about measures taken to control increasing prices and stocks of sugar and wheat.
